More than 40 Senate Republicans are calling on Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) to authorize an impeachment trial against Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Graham and Senate Republicans wrote: [must] Uphold the House’s constitutional responsibility to properly adjudicate impeachment cases. ”
The only Senate Republicans who did not sign the letter were Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), Susan Collins (R-Maine), and Mitt Romney (R-Utah). For example, Romney Said The House’s charges against Mayorkas do not warrant impeachment.
In February, the House of Representatives voted 214-213 to impeach Mayorkas, in the first move in about a century and a half. Mayorkas has overseen record numbers of illegal immigrants into the United States, with more than 7.4 million people crossing the southern border since February 2021.

House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-Louisiana) was scheduled to send articles of impeachment against Mr. Mayorkas to the Senate on Wednesday, April 10th, but postponed it to Tuesday, April 16th.
Mr. Mayorkas has overseen a record increase in illegal immigration, as well as the creation of an extensive catch-and-release network that releases tens of thousands of migrants into the U.S. interior each month.
Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and Rep. Tom McClintock (R-Calif.) called on Mayorkas to turn over records detailing all immigrants released during his term. However, the Secretary refused to comply with the request.
Under Mr. Mayorkas’ watch, DHS has released about 85% of all migrants arriving at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to reports. However, the secretary has never publicly acknowledged that figure.
