Biden surrogate: ‘Cowardly’ Trump won’t go to Ukraine because ‘Putin doesn’t want him to’

President Biden’s re-election campaign representative, Rep. Mikie Sherrill (D.J.), on Friday criticized former President Trump for implying that a trip to Ukraine was “not appropriate” and that Russian President Vladimir Putin “simply ” insisted otherwise. I want him to do that.

In a statement first obtained by The Hill, Sherrill, a former Navy helicopter pilot and Russia policy official at the Commander-in-Chief of Naval Forces Europe, said President Trump was “too busy” to visit the war-torn country. He claimed that he was too cowardly.

“The reason Mr. Trump won’t go to Ukraine is simply because President Vladimir Putin doesn’t want to go there. Donald Trump doesn’t care about what’s best for U.S. national security or democracy. All he cares about is what’s best for Donald Trump,” she said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged President Trump to visit the country in an interview with Axel Springer Media this week.

Former Vice President Mike Pence and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie both visited Ukraine while running for the Republican nomination against President Trump. Biden made a surprise visit to Ukraine in February 2023.
