Former President Donald Trump’s unprecedented criminal trial began Monday morning with jury selection, the first day of what could be two weeks of proceedings.
This trial will be the president’s first criminal trial.
Democratic Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump with 34 felonies for falsifying documents to cover up the sex scandal. If Trump is convicted, he could face prison time.

Trump is expected to appear in court in most trials during his presidential campaign, and may even take the stand. The trial could last until June.
President Trump on Monday called the lawsuit election interference. “Why didn’t they file this completely discredited lawsuit seven years ago? Election interference!” Trump posted.
The 12 selected jurors will have to decide Mr. Cohen’s story for themselves. Mr. Cohen is expected to be the prosecution’s star witness, and he will face his boss, whom he once admired but now despises.
Jury selection will be important for both sides. Prosecutors have some advantage because the jurors are drawn from Manhattan, one of the most Democratic counties in the country. Trump’s team will be looking for a red needle in a blue haystack.
President Trump is also under a strict gag order. “I want my voice back. This crooked judge gagged me. It’s unconstitutional! They can speak for me, but I can’t speak for them. It’s an unjust trial!” Trump posted on Monday.
As reported by Nick Gilbertson of Breitbart News, the gag order prevents Trump from testifying against witnesses in his trial, attorneys other than Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg (D), and “court staff.” , district attorney staff, or…”. “A family member of a defense attorney or employee, if these statements were made with the intent of substantially interfering with the defense attorney’s or employee’s work on the case.” This includes potential jurors.
The case is new york vs trump, New York County Supreme Court No. 71543-23.
