Trump’s New York Hush Money Case Is ‘Absurd’

FOX News legal analyst Jonathan Turley said Monday on FOX News Channel’s “America’s Newsroom” that former President Donald Trump has been accused of falsifying business records related to payments to porn actress Stormy Daniel. He said it was “ridiculous” that he was on trial in New York.

Host Dana Perino said, “Jonathan, you wrote about Cicero, ‘More laws, less justice,’ and it seems like you’re saying the same thing here.” Why? “

Turley said, “The more lawsuits there are against Trump, the less justice we receive as a people. Trump’s opponents would have been far better off focusing on just one case, the Mar-a-Lago incident. Yes, it’s based on real law, real precedent, and some people may disagree with that interpretation. But that’s not the scope of this case.”

He continued: “This case is creating something, which is creating criminal law just for Trump. You know, you have misdemeanors that are past the statute of limitations and the statutory limitations have expired. And it came back in this strange way. He’s effectively claiming that Trump was submitting false business records through his lawyers to cover up federal crimes. But this is not a federal crime. None of it seems to matter, and that’s why so many of us wince at this. This is not what the law should be.”

Turley added, “New Yorkers seem to like this. They elected James, who tried to beat Trump on everything, but he didn’t mention anything. And they’re now saying that many of us… They’re touting this district attorney who is putting together what he considers to be an unreasonable indictment.”
