Katie Couric is facing backlash online after claiming her “Make America Great Again” political movement is driven by “anti-intellectualism.”
Couric made the comments on the latest episode of Bill Maher’s podcast “Club Random” while discussing Donald Trump and MAGA, which was born during the former president’s 2016 campaign.
“Socioeconomic disparities are wide, class resentment is high, and anti-intellectualism and elitism are driving many of these dissidents.” [people] So I think this is a big issue that we have to address,” Couric explained to Maher, referring to the MAGA movement, which takes its name from the former president’s campaign slogan.
“What I’m talking about is globalization and the transition from an industrial society to a technological society. I don’t know if you’ve ever been jealous or resentful of someone, but it’s so corrosive and It’s a bitter feeling, almost like bile.”
Critics slammed the American journalist and presenter on X, calling her comments “out of line”.
“This is what we call projection. Blaming the other person for their feelings when it’s actually you who feels that way,” one user said.
Another woman dismissed Couric, saying, “She’s full of people she’s never met and she’s not going to put herself down and be with them.”
“This is so disgusting and shows how out of touch she is. Don’t get me wrong, this is how the media views Trump supporters,” another said.
On the other hand, one X user said: “I’ve never been a jealous person, but I find that many of Trump’s supporters are well-educated in a wide range of fields. I think Couric is a snob and a low-IQ communist. I’ve been living in a bubble, so I’m out of touch with reality.”
In contrast, Ma defended President Trump’s voters, saying media pundits and commentators should take the time to understand them better.
“It’s not to defend Trump, it’s to protect the people who still vote for him,” Maher said.
“Because for them, what they see on the other side is even more dangerous. Because it’s closer to home. ‘My child comes home from school and thinks I’m a racist?'” he said. is 5 years old, what did you say to him? My son thinks he may not be a boy. ” And maybe that’s true and it happens. That’s what I’m saying. “That’s why I’m voting for Trump,” Maher added.
Mr. Trump is considered the Republican presidential candidate, while Mr. Biden is considered the Democratic presidential candidate, and a rematch in the 2020 election is scheduled.
