Whether it’s washing dishes or mopping, housewives are always on the go.
But new research suggests their Cinderella-like duties actually amount to quite a bit of change.
Experts at Beike Biotechnology, an international adult stem cell research institute, recently determined the monthly income that housewives around the world should earn for their hard work.
And, according to the survey results, genuine New York housewives who rarely get “thanks” should make a bank, honey!
“To understand the value of stay-at-home parents in households around the world, we set out to quantify the amount of time they spend at their jobs each month.” The study authors wrote:assessed the daily to-dos of unpaid mothers with up to four children in 80 major cities.
New York City moms ranked SAHM #8 on their list of the top 10 most valuable places in the world.
Domestic engineers in the Big Apple earn just over $4,300 in housework and child care every 30 days, according to the report.
But Gotham’s wannabe moms don’t earn as much as women in hotspots like Zurich, Switzerland.
The study named the European destination as the No. 1 city where mothers perform the most labor each month, totaling more than $5,700.
The full-time parents from Basel, Switzerland completed the routine task at a staggering cost of $5,200 and took home second place honors.
Clinicians said the report “analyzed all aspects of household chores such as cleaning, shopping, cooking and laundry,” adding that it also looked at “childcare tasks such as transportation, emotional support, tutoring and planning.”
Stay-at-home moms in San Francisco, California, came in third place, with moms on the West Coast churning out $5,196.76 worth of work.
The Restless Mothers of Washington DC and Los Angeles also secured top spots on the Top 10 charts.
The research team also calculated the total cost of outsourcing the tasks that a stay-at-home mom performs while raising her children.
“We assumed a 20-year timeline per child, with additional children born at two-year intervals thereafter,” the researchers said. “So a housewife with four children will be working for 26 years.”
And according to their calculations, a SAHM with four children living in New York City could accumulate more than $1.45 million after raising a family for nearly 30 years.
Mothers who run the household are crying out over the hassle of a thankless job.
At the beginning of the year, a housewife taking care of her three sons, ages 8, 6, and 18 months, set ChatGPT ablaze with an adorable image of what a stay-at-home mom would look like in 2024.
Disillusioned, the woman considered the AI system’s romantic understanding of family life to be “bullying.”
Amanda Rose, a mother of two from Oregon, decided to keep her housework to a minimum.
In fact, the self-proclaimed “lazy housewife” would rather rest than work herself to the bone.
“I feel like if I keep cleaning all day long, that’s all I need to do for the day.” the brunette lamented In a trending TikTok, she told all about her “pig pen” residence.
“Yes, I’m a stay-at-home mom,” Rose said. Rose says she finds comfort in just cleaning up once in a while.
“But I’m not a maid,” she said.
