Rep. Schiff reportedly robbed in San Francisco, forced to attend ritzy campaign dinner with no suit to wear

California Senate candidate Rep. Adam Schiff received a rude reception in San Francisco on Thursday after he was reportedly the victim of a carjacking hours before a lavish campaign dinner.

according to San Francisco Chronicle, Thieves broke into his car, which was parked in a downtown parking lot, and stole his bag. According to the Chronicle, Schiff didn’t even have business attire, and while others wore suits, he still wore shirt sleeves and a hiking vest to the event.

At the dinner, Mr. Schiff thanked attorney Joe Cotchett for supporting Mr. Schiff’s efforts to replace the late Dianne Feinstein in the U.S. Senate to represent California. .

“I think it’s ‘Welcome to San Francisco,'” joked Lee Housekeeper, Mr. Cotchet’s press secretary, who was attending the dinner at Ristorante Rocca in Burlingame.

Schiff himself said he was unfazed by the theft.

“Yes, they took my stuff,” the California representative said, according to the Chronicle. “But I’m here to thank Joe.”

“While interviewing Mayor Matt Mahan in downtown San Jose, a man yelled at us and engaged Mayor Mahan’s security,” KRON4 reporter Jack Molmood posted along with a video of the incident. “The fight continued for several minutes and the man was arrested by SJPD. Police said they are compiling evidence and sending it to the prosecutor’s office.”

“The motive and circumstances of the altercation are under investigation,” San Jose police said in a statement.
