“From a talent standpoint in the game, there’s no one better. It makes sense,” said Rep. Seitz, who suspended Rose at a time when sports betting, from which MLB profits, is widespread. He also said it would be “hypocritical” of MLB to do so. Of course, resolutions are not binding.

Meanwhile, Rose has applied for forgiveness from the league five times, but has been denied each time.

FOX News added that Rose was a 17-time All-Star, hit .303 in his career and won three World Series. His 4,256 career hits are the all-time high.

But despite his claims of repentance, he also admitted to still gambling on baseball, complicating hopes that his Hall of Fame ban will be lifted during his lifetime.

Rose’s last letter to MLB commissioner Manfred was in which he expressed deep regret for his actions that led to his suspension.

“There are three reasons why I’m writing this article today,” Rose told Manfred. “First of all, at my age, I want you to understand 100% how much I mean it when I say I’m sorry. Second, I ask for forgiveness. And thirdly, because I still think every day about what it means to be in the Hall of Fame.”

I’m so grateful to have been able to share time with them on and off the field. There’s no substitute for that.”
