Sen. Lindsey Graham (RS.C.) said Sunday that all criminal cases brought against former President Trump are “selective prosecutions.”
Graham told CNN’s Dana Bash on CNN’s “State of the Union” that the legal battle brought against the former president is “political.” The South Carolina Republican also cited a New York hush money trial that began in a Manhattan courtroom earlier this month.
“Why don’t you ask me, if he was convicted in one of these trials, would my views change?” No, I think all of these trials are political. Masu. I think it’s selective prosecution. I think what’s happening in New York is outrageous. The incident dates back eight years. They created a crime just for Trump. I think this is selective prosecution for political purposes,” Graham said Sunday.
Trump has disclosed business records paid to then-fixer Michael Cohen in connection with reimbursing adult film actress Stormy Daniels in 2016 to keep quiet about her alleged affair with the former president. He has been charged with 34 counts of forgery.
President Trump faces a total of 88 criminal charges across four different indictments, and has frequently branded these cases as politically motivated. He has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
Graham also said voters were more concerned about their own issues than the former president’s legal issues.
“So I think most Americans are going to decide how to vote based on the issues they face, like inflation, crime, and broken borders, not President Trump’s legal issues. You. “The polls tell me everything I need to know about President Trump’s legal problems. People are focused on their own problems, not President Trump’s legal problems.”
He said he would “absolutely” support Trump even if he were found guilty in either case, adding that “most people ignore this.”
“They’re going to focus on their own issues, not the lawsuits that liberals have brought against Mr. Trump,” he said.
