Inaccuracies found in Noem’s new memoir ahead of release

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem’s memoir has not yet been released, but inaccuracies have already emerged.

A spokeswoman for Noem said “two small errors” were brought to the Republican governor’s attention. The book is called “There’s No Going Back: The Truth About What’s Wrong with Politics and How We Move America Moving Forward.”

Dakota Scout reported. Noem’s book Thursday said she met with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un while serving on the House Armed Services Committee.

“During my time on the House Armed Services Committee, I had the opportunity to travel to many countries to meet with world leaders,” she writes in her upcoming book. “I remember meeting Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea. I’m sure he underestimated me, knowing nothing of my experience looking down on petty tyrants. (I was a children’s pastor)

Dakota Scout spoke with Congressional staff and North Korea analysts to explain why such a meeting would be nearly impossible. Nom visited China as a member of the committee in 2014, but there is no record of Kim leaving North Korea until 2018, when Nom was campaigning for governor.

One analyst told the magazine that even former President Obama had never met Kim, and that former President Trump met Kim in the summer of 2018.

Noem spokesman Ian Furey said in an emailed statement to The Hill that Kim “is included in the list of world leaders and should not have been included.”

Noem also wrote about a “weird” conversation she had with former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley, who she said called her and offered to be her mentor in the summer of 2021.

According to an excerpt from the book Obtained by PoliticoNoem wrote that Haley said she had “heard quite a bit” about her, but Noem said she felt threatened by the call.

Noem said Haley made it clear there was room for one Republican woman in the spotlight. The South Dakota governor is rumored to be on President Trump’s running mate list, but another story in her book — about the murder of her dog — didn’t help her prospects.

Politico reported that Haley’s spokesperson said the two women did have a conversation, but it took place in 2020, not 2021. Fury acknowledged in her statement that the time of the conversation was 2020.

Furey said the error had been “communicated to the ghostwriter and editor” and that “the book has not yet been released and all future editions will be corrected.”

“The media will naturally try to magnify these small issues,” Furey said in a statement, going on to list questionable claims President Biden has made about his life.

Noem made national headlines last week after excerpts from her book detailing how she shot and killed her 14-month-old dog, Cricket, for misbehaving during a hunting trip.

Despite receiving harsh criticism from across the political spectrum, Noem doubled down on her actions.
