African Methodists take a stand for biblical marriage after United Methodist Church adopts pro-LGBT measures

A group of African Methodists issued a statement last week supporting Orthodox Christian teachings on sexual ethics.

Last week, the United Methodist Church joined other progressive denominations in the United States in rescinding bans on LGBT clergy, same-sex marriage, and practicing LGBT members in its General Conference.

United Methodist pastors can now openly practice an LGBT lifestyle; will not face discipline To preside over same-sex marriage. Furthermore, the sect I can’t tell you that anymore “The practice of homosexuality is incompatible with Christian teachings.”

However, representatives of the Methodist denomination in the majority world stand firm on their position.

In a statement, the African Methodist delegation accused the UMC of following in the footsteps of “Western culture” and changing the definition of marriage.

“The United Methodist Church has chosen to follow what pleases man rather than what pleases God,” the representatives charged.

“The United Methodist Church has changed the definition of marriage. We now define marriage differently than God originally created it (Genesis 2:18, 23-25). “We are changing the definition from what Jesus described in Matthew 19 as one man and one woman,” the representatives added.

“In Africa, we don’t believe we know more than Jesus. We don’t believe we know more than God. We don’t believe we know more than the Bible,” they say. I did.

African leaders have made it clear that they want the whole world to know their position, saying, “We do not accept any change in the definition of marriage, and we do not accept marriage as anything other than one man and one woman.” I will never accept it as such.”

Similarly, Nimia Peralta, representative from the Philippines. Said“While we celebrate global regionalization, we truly believe that the definition of marriage can never be regionalized.”

Measures to approve progressive guidelines were adopted with overwhelming support.

Most conservative Methodists chose not to attend the conference. In fact, thousands of former UMC members have voted to leave and join UMC. global methodist church Or remain independent?

The backlash from African Methodists is indicative of an important phenomenon occurring in Christian circles today. The acceptance of pro-LGBT theology is almost entirely confined to the Western church.

On the other hand, Christians in Asia, Africa, and Latin America (regions where sexuality and gender issues are not cultural lightning rods) remain faithful to orthodox Christian teachings on sexual ethics.
