Less than a week later, Sanders told CNN that Biden’s support for Israel could hurt his re-election chances, especially among young voters.
“This could be Biden’s Vietnam,” Sanders said of the massive student protests against Biden. “I’m very concerned that President Biden is putting himself in a position where he’s going to alienate not just young people but a lot of the Democratic base in terms of his views on Israel and this war.”
In an interview with Politico, Sanders reiterated that Democratic voters are dissatisfied with Biden.
“I understand that many people in this country are not very enthusiastic about Mr. Biden for a variety of reasons, and that’s understandable,” the senator said. “I strongly disagree with his views, especially on what’s going on in Gaza,” Sanders said.
But the Vermont senator explained that politics requires “maturity” to deal with controversial issues.
“When you deal with politics, you need a certain level of maturity. Of course, you can disagree with someone’s opinion,” he said. “That doesn’t mean you can vote for someone else, who may be the most dangerous person in American history, or that you can win without voting.”

Nina Turner, a political activist and national co-chair of Sanders’ 2020 presidential campaign, said the Biden campaign is facing challenges.
“This campaign is in trouble, and Sen. Sanders will do whatever he can to get this guy across the finish line,” Turner said. “I’m not so sure it’ll work this time.”
Mr. Sanders himself revealed the advice he gave Mr. Biden for his campaign.
“What I told the White House is that just talking about Donald Trump is not enough,” Sanders told The Associated Press. “It’s not enough just to talk about your accomplishments. I have that. You have to have bold plans for the future.”
Mr. Sanders and Mr. Biden have had a close relationship over the years, some political advisers said.
“I know he felt he saw warmth and positivity from Joe Biden at a time when there’s a lot of animosity within the Democratic Party and at the top,” Biden adviser Faiz Shakir said. .
