George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley accused the judges in former President Donald Trump’s trial of losing control of the courtroom.
Porn star Stormy Daniels testified in court Tuesday about a $130,000 payment to keep quiet about an alleged affair before the 2016 election. Trump’s lawyers argued for a miscarriage of justice, alleging that Trump introduced irrelevant information to the case, but New York state judge Juan Marchand rejected the claim.
“The problem with what the judge did here is that this is a completely unnecessary witness. There is no dispute that there is an NDA. There is no question of what happened to their relationship, if there was one. It doesn’t matter how those payments are presented by the Trump campaign,” Turley told “American Report” co-hosts John Roberts and Gillian Turner. “So the court has had the opportunity to reiterate that we are not going to address the details of this relationship in this court. If you want to establish a relationship, set a date. But perhaps those facts are not covered by the stipulations. It may have been.” (Related: Fox legal analyst says Trump prosecutors are doing “exactly the same thing that led to the reversal” of Weinstein conviction)
“So the prosecution wanted to reveal sordid details, and this is a form of punishment,” Turley continued. “They are trying to use witnesses for punitive purposes and, in my opinion, political purposes, and this is what is happening. It is happening because the judge has lost control of the courtroom. ”

Turley previously said in an April 30 appearance on Fox News that Marchan made a mistake in allowing prosecutors led by former Biden administration official Michael Colangelo to allege that Trump had engaged in violations of federal election law. He said that it may have been.
“That’s going to be difficult to fix,” Turley said. “The judge could try to fix some of this in his instructions, but it would be very difficult to do that right now. For example, the judge could tell this jury that President Trump committed election fraud. “There is no evidence of any crime.”
