Biden leads Trump in Wisconsin, but race narrows with RFK Jr. on ballot: poll

President Biden maintains a clear lead over former President Donald Trump in the battleground state of Wisconsin, but the latest poll shows that if minor candidates are included, there will be no cushion against the Democratic Party.

of Quinnipiac University research According to a report released Wednesday, Mr. Biden had 50% support among registered voters, compared to only 44% for Mr. Trump.

But when three third-party candidates were entered, the vote share for the two major parties fell below 80%, with Mr. Biden at 40%, Mr. Trump at 39%, and independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy. Mr. Junior received 12% of the vote, while Mr. Greene received less than 80%. Party candidate Jill Stein won 4% of the vote, while independent candidate Cornel West won 1%.

Independent candidates have until Aug. 6 to submit a petition requesting ballot access, and it’s unclear how many options voters will have.

The Badger State has supported Republicans in the presidential election only once since 1988, in 2016, when Trump defeated Hillary Clinton.

But four years later, Mr. Biden returned the state to the Democratic field, defeating Mr. Trump by just over 20,000 votes out of more than 3.2 million cast.

The Quinnipiac poll is welcome news for Biden, but it’s an outlier compared to other polls.

a Marquette University Law School Poll A report released in mid-April showed Trump leading Biden 51% to 49% among registered voters. The Milwaukee institution is considered the gold standard for researching the state’s political attitudes.

Meanwhile, Trump leads Biden by an average of 0.5 points in the state, according to RealClearPolitics.

In the Wisconsin Senate race, Quinnipiac has double-digit support for incumbent Democrat Tammy Baldwin against Republican challenger Eric Hovde, with Baldwin’s approval rating at 54% and Hovde’s approval rating. It is 42%.

Both Mr. Trump and Mr. Biden have emphasized their campaign efforts in Wisconsin in an effort to sway voters to their side.

While the former president emphasized the economy and immigration, Mr. Biden has emphasized his vision of “preserving democracy” and economic results.

About one in four Wisconsin voters (24%) say the economy is their top priority, followed by immigration and preserving democracy (20% each).

Meanwhile, anti-Israel protests on college campuses across the country have little support among voters in Wisconsin, half of whom told Quinnipiac they oppose the demonstrations.

However, more than six in 10 voters aged 18 to 34 (63%) said they supported the protests, and 28% said they opposed them.

While 60% of 18-34 year olds support setting up camps on college campuses, only 32% oppose the practice.

The Quinnipiac University poll was conducted May 2-6 among 1,457 registered voters in Wisconsin and had a margin of error of plus or minus 2.6 percentage points.
