President Joe Biden’s decision to withhold bombs from Israel means more Israeli soldiers will die in booby-trapped buildings that would otherwise be destroyed from the air, according to Israeli military officials. It is said that it should be done.
As Breitbart News reported, the Biden administration confirmed this week that it had withheld the 2,500 pounds. and 500 pounds. It will also refrain from launching bombs in opposition to Israel’s decision to attack Hamas’ last stronghold in Rafah.
Israel views the defeat of Hamas in Rafah as a military necessity and has decided to continue the operation. But to avoid antagonism with Biden and running out of bombs, Israel would need to send soldiers directly into the building.
“Everything is set up to explode.” [in Rafah]” said a military official. “We are working on the construction of numerous buildings and tunnels that have been set up in a way that we have never seen before. Hamas is organized and was waiting for the IDF to enter Rafah. ”
Biden’s objections forced Israel to postpone the Rafah operation by three months, giving Hamas plenty of time to prepare.
Israel took action after Hamas refused to make concessions in hostage negotiations, attacking the Keren Shalom border crossing, a key entry point for humanitarian aid. The attack killed four soldiers and injured several more.
Since Monday, Israel has closed the Rafah crossing between Gaza and Egypt and the Philadelphia Corridor Road, which runs along the Gaza-Egypt border. Rafah also conducts limited operations against Hamas terrorists.
On Friday night local time, Hamas fired five rockets that reached the Israeli city of Beersheba in the central Negev desert, the first attack on the city in months and underscoring the need for Operation Rafah.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) practice in the Gaza Strip has been to identify buildings where Hamas is hiding, warn residents to leave, and then bomb the buildings. Early in the war, dozens of soldiers died inside booby-trapped buildings.
IDF soldiers faced a lot of face-to-face combat during the war in counterterrorism operations in the West Bank, but because Hamas does not control the area, they did not have the same degree of freedom to operate there as in Gaza. .
The IDF is preparing for a slow, deliberate operation in Rafah. But it also means that Israel will have to accept more military casualties than it would otherwise have.
And that means many Israelis are angry with President Biden.
