new york (WPIX) – The FBI on Monday issued a warning that foreign terrorist organizations may target LGBTQ events and venues during Pride Month.
Federal authorities have announced an increased threat from foreign terrorist organizations like ISIS over upcoming LGBTQ+ Pride events.
With Pride Month just three weeks away, New York City is buzzing with excitement.
“It’s incredibly disappointing and concerning,” said City Councilman Eric Bottcher, who is openly gay.
He looks forward to Pride Month every year and attends many events.
“We must take seriously the warnings from the FBI and DHS and follow the advice they have given us, which is to remain vigilant and on the lookout for anything that might appear inappropriate.” said.

ISIS praised the attack. The FBI said indicators that law enforcement and the public should be on the lookout for include threats of violence made online or in person, someone taking photos of security equipment or personnel, and requests for information about events or crowd size without explanation. He said that it would be possible. They may also attempt to circumvent security or impersonate law enforcement.
But some say they’re not daunted by participating in Pride events.
“Our community is not intimidated. We want them to have a real sense of pride,” Bottcher added.
To report a threat, contact your local FBI office. Authorities are also advising people attending Pride events to be aware of their surroundings and to report any suspicious activity.
