Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) on Sunday criticized NBC News for its one-sided attacks on Republicans in order to “defend democracy.”
On Sunday, Rubio appeared on “Meet the Press,” and before giving an interview about policy issues such as abortion and immigration, he was asked by host Kristen Welker if he would serve as Donald Trump’s vice president. Ta.
“Democrats say they won’t certify 2024 because Trump is an insurrectionist and unfit to be president. So you have to ask them.”
But the interview turned sour when Mr. Welker suddenly changed his tune and asked the standard question, “Are you going to accept the results of the 2024 election no matter what happens, Senator?”
Rubio clearly took offense to the question and questioned the premise, saying he believes the 2024 election could be contested by either Republicans or Democrats “if it’s an unfair election.”
“You’re asking the wrong person. It’s the Democrats who have opposed every Republican victory since 2000,” Rubio said. “Hillary Clinton said her election was stolen from her and Trump was illegitimate.”
In response, Welker defended Hillary Clinton and the Democratic Party before repeating the question.
“There’s not a single Democrat who refused to concede. Hillary Clinton did,” Welker defended. “Senator, do you accept the election results?”
”[Clinton] President Trump said it was illegal. She said the election was stolen. Kamala Harris agreed,” Rubio retorted. And Democrats now say they won’t certify 2024 because Trump is an insurrectionist and unfit to serve as president. So you need to ask them. ”
After Mr. Welker persuaded Mr. Rubio to repeatedly say that Mr. Clinton had “conceded,” Mr. Rubio cornered the NBC News anchor with revealing questions.
“Have you ever asked a Democrat this question on your show?” he asked Welker.
But Mr. Welker declined to answer this question.
Instead, she changed the direction of the interview and tried to use Rubio’s words about President Trump to suggest that the former president had a history of “undermining the American people’s faith in our democracy.”
But Rubio wasn’t playing those games.
“What hurt the election was the censorship of NBC News and all major American news organizations in 2020. [Hunter] The story about Biden’s laptop turned out to be true, not Russian misinformation. This is unprecedented,” the senator fired back.
Welker came to his defense again, saying NBC covered the Hunter Biden laptop incident.but A quick Google search will show you The outlet only covered stories in the lead-up to the election in a way that was favorable to the Bidens.
The interview ended without saying whether Mr. Welker had asked or planned to ask Democrats whether they would accept the 2024 election results.
