Two inmates who were part of a group that escaped from a prison east of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, last weekend have been re-detained after being found hiding in a trash can behind a Dollar General store.
According to the Tangipahoa County Sheriff’s Office, suspects Avery Guidry, 19, and Travon Johnson, 21, were pursued about 20 miles south of the Tangipahoa County Jail.
“Police found the two hiding in a dumpster behind the Dollar General store at the intersection of Pumpkin Center Road and Old Baton Rouge Highway,” police said in a statement Monday, adding that the other two inmates, Omarion Hookfin, 19, and Jamarcus Cyprian, 20, remain at large.
Tanjipahoa County Sheriff Daniel Edwards said the four inmates escaped through the perimeter fence of the Tanjipahoa County Jail Sunday night during recreation time on the jail grounds.

According to the sheriff’s office, an inspection of the perimeter fence found sections of the fence were weak and easily manipulated to allow a body to pass through.
Johnson, Hookfin and Gudry were all incarcerated for their alleged involvement in a 2022 murder in Hammond, Louisiana, while Cyprien was incarcerated on armed robbery and weapons charges.
The Idaho inmate and his accomplice were arrested about 130 miles from the hospital where the ambush and escape took place.
