This is truly an insane story.
A woman who was arrested red-handed on a public pier in Naples, Florida, jumped into the water in an attempt to escape officers Monday afternoon, authorities said.
But the escape didn’t do much for 20-year-old Alicia Lazo, who was quickly taken into custody by the Coast Guard once she reached shore, according to police reports.
The Naples Police Department received multiple calls around 4:30 p.m. on the busy Memorial Day holiday reporting a man and woman engaged in sexual activity behind locked gates on the historic pier.
When officers arrived, Lazo and Zadok Westfield, 23, were still fighting.
While the pair hastily got dressed, Lazo moved to the end of the pier and jumped in, despite officers ordering him to stay where he was.
Westfield, who was naked when police arrived, remained at the scene.
He told officers he and Lazo swam to the end of the pier and planned to jump off, but ended up having sex instead.
Witnesses told police they were enjoying a day at the beach near the pier with their four children, ages 7 to 15, when they noticed Lazo and Westfield naked in a public area.
She told police that her underage children were asking questions about what the suspects were doing.
Razo and Westfield were each charged with trespassing and disturbing the peace.
Lazo was also charged with resisting arrest without violence.
Both were detained and released on bail the same day.
The iconic pier, which juts out about 1,000 feet into the Gulf of Mexico, has only been partially open to tourists since it was heavily damaged by Hurricane Ian in 2022.
