A group of British nurses has filed a lawsuit against the National Health Service hospital system, accusing it of defending a transgender employee who allegedly harassed a female staff member in a women’s changing room.

“[My manager] “We were basically told we need to be more inclusive and broaden our thinking,” one nurse who works at the hospital system told Fox News Digital. “The trust is supporting this person, we need to be educated. I find this totally insulting. It’s totally insulting. And we had to compromise.”

The female nurses say they first raised concerns about having to disrobe in front of transgender women with management in the summer of 2023 but received no response. In March, 26 female nurses signed a letter about the issue, and in April, female nurses were lectured by management that they needed to be more “inclusive” and tolerant of transgender colleagues.

“It’s very scary. We feel like we can’t talk about it, we’re being silenced, our opinions aren’t being taken into account. It’s really upsetting,” said the nurse, who asked not to be named.

Hospital officials, who asked not to be identified to protect the individuals involved, said policy allows employees to use locker rooms and bathrooms that correspond with their gender identity, which led to several uncomfortable encounters with the man. Nurses say the male employee, who uses a female name, often wanders around the women’s locker room wearing boxer shorts that reveal his genitals, staring and chatting up female colleagues as they get changed.

“It’s been really hard for all of us,” the nurse said. “Some of the girls have traumatic histories, they’ve been abused by men. Some girls have PTSD and don’t want to go into a room where they have to undress in front of men. We’ve had nurses on the ward crying.”

She said that tight security in changing rooms means female employees are afraid to be in a room alone with a transgender colleague.

“You have to press a key to get into the changing rooms, you need a pin code, and once it’s closed, it stays closed. It’s a thick door. If something happens, no one can hear me scream for help. And if I’m in the changing room with this guy, we can both say one thing or the other. I can say this, he can say that, but no one can know the truth. So, to protect myself, I actually left the place and now I change in the disabled toilets.” [stall],” she said.

Another nurse, who was sexually abused as a child, said a transgender colleague would approach her half-naked and repeatedly ask her why she wasn’t getting changed.

“Flight or fight mode kicked in but I felt glued to my seat and couldn’t move. My hands started to sweat. I froze, felt sick and started to hyperventilate. I didn’t know who he was at this point, all I knew was that a man was looking at me and asking why I wasn’t taking off my clothes,” the nurse said in a press release.

“I didn’t want to take my clothes off but I couldn’t move. I was on the verge of crying. I started a game on my phone to distract myself and then I heard the door to the changing room click shut. I looked up and he was gone. I was scared what he was going to do to me,” she continued.

One foreign nurse on the team said she had started wearing a vest and leggings in front of her transgender colleagues to maintain her modesty.

Nurses also said a transgender staff member claimed he had stopped taking female hormones in order to impregnate his girlfriend.

In a letter in March, the female nurses told management that conditions at work had become “unbearable,” and they allege the hospital ignored their complaints for nearly a year before a private meeting in April in which it instructed them to be more inclusive.

They are suing the NHS trust for sexual harassment and sex discrimination.

“This NHS trust is prioritising dangerous and discredited transgender ideology over the safety of its staff and patients, let alone biological reality. We fear that what these nurses are experiencing is just the tip of the iceberg – how many more are being forced to go through similar experiences in the NHS, other professions and public places?” Andrea Williams, chief executive of the Christian Legal Centre, said in a statement.

“Telling educated, qualified and caring women that they need to be ‘retrained’ and become more ‘inclusive’ because they have raised concerns about the current situation is highly problematic,” she continued. “Instead of succumbing to a climate of fear for speaking out against transgender ideology, nurses are now refusing to be silent and are taking a brave stand, and we will support them every step of the way.”

A spokesperson for the NHS trust issued the following statement to Fox News Digital:

“The Trust is committed to providing an inclusive and respectful working environment for all our employees. We are aware of the issues recently raised and take this extremely seriously. We want to assure employees and the wider community that as soon as these issues were brought to our attention we initiated meetings to fully understand staff’s needs and concerns, in line with our resolution policy. We recognise this is a highly sensitive issue and are considering the feedback and concerns raised by our teams, as well as working to comply with legal requirements and best practice,” the spokesperson said.

“We are committed to working with all parties to find a solution that respects the rights and dignity of all individuals whilst maintaining the highest standards of professionalism and impartiality. As our internal processes continue, it is not appropriate to comment in further detail at this stage,” the statement continued.
