A top Silicon Valley venture capitalist announced Thursday that he has donated $300,000 to former President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign following his conviction.
Sean Maguire, a general partner at Sequoia Capital, isn’t just donating to Trump’s campaign: he supports him at all costs.
“I personally believe that the double standards and legal war against Trump are 10 times worse and 10 times more dangerous to our democracy.”
“In 2016, I was intoxicated by the media frenzy and terrified of Trump, so I donated to Hillary Clinton’s campaign and voted for her,” Maguire said. explanation About X. “Now in 2024, I believe this is one of the most important elections of my lifetime, and I support Trump.
“I know I will lose friends over this. Some will refuse to do business with me. The media will probably demonize me, as so many have done before me,” he added. “But I still believe this is the right thing to do.”
Maguire’s decision to support Trump with his words, his money and his vote was long overdue.
In a lengthy essay, Maguire said he believes the 2016 election was rigged against Hillary Clinton and even “stolen” from her, but he doesn’t blame Trump for it.
But his “radicalization” against the Democratic Party began after President Joe Biden’s disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. Indeed, Maguire believes Biden’s administration has been a foreign policy disaster and has led to “global destabilization.”
Maguire also believes Democrats are using double standards and a “legal war” to attack Trump because he is their biggest rival.
“I believe President Trump has been one of the best foreign policy presidents in recent decades and the most complicated one in nearly a century,” Maguire wrote.
Referring to the infamous “Access Hollywood” footage, he explained, “While that footage remains close to my heart, I personally believe the double standards and legal war against Trump are 10 times worse and 10 times more dangerous to our democracy.”
Ultimately, Maguire said he believes “the justice system is being weaponized against Trump,” which is why he now supports Trump.
Maguire isn’t the only American to show his support through actions as well as words.
On Friday, the Trump campaign Announced The campaign raised $34.8 million from small donors in the hours after Trump was convicted, a record single-day donation for the campaign.
Even more shocking, about 30% of the contributions came from first-time donors, meaning the ruling motivated voters who might not have otherwise financially supported Trump’s campaign to spend their hard-earned money to put Trump back in the White House.
