Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana on Sunday vowed to retaliate against the conviction of former President Trump, saying House Republicans would “explore every avenue available.”
Speaker Johnson made the comments during an appearance on “Fox News Sunday” with host Shannon Bream. The speaker touted the House’s oversight powers and said he plans to use them against corrupt prosecutors, but made clear that Republicans must uphold the “rule of law.”
“We are the party of the rule of law. Chaos is not a Conservative value. We must fight back and we will fight back with every tool we have, but we will do so within the rule of law,” Johnson said.
“We believe in our institutions. We are conservatives and we are trying to protect the greatest country in the history of the world, and our institutions are an important part of that. Our judicial system is an important part of that,” he added.
