Trump wins Montana Republican primary

Former President Trump has won Montana’s Republican primary, according to a projection from Decision Desk HQ.

A win in Big Sky Country could add another 31 delegates to the presumptive Republican nominee’s tally.

The presidential primary ballot featured only two candidates, Trump and Biden, but voters had the opportunity to vote for a “no preference” option. Both candidates faced pressure from within their parties to vote in protest during the primary process, Biden over his frustration with the Israel-Hamas war and Trump over what he sees as some Republicans voting for his former rival, Nikki Haley.

Trump is expected to win the Republican state in November. Winner In 2016, he won by 20 percentage points against Hillary Clinton, and in 2020, he won by 16 points against Biden.

DDHQ/The Hill’s latest 2024 projections show the former president is likely to win the state again this fall.

Montana will hold its final state primary on Tuesday night, followed by two more next week in the U.S. Virgin Islands and Guam, wrapping up the primary process and shifting focus to party conventions this summer.
