Israeli forces discovered a Hamas tunnel entrance inside a child’s bedroom in Rafah on Thursday.
The IDF said it had recovered a large amount of weapons and explosives from the tunnels, the latest in what it called “precise, intelligence-driven, targeted operations” that Israel is conducting inside Rafah.
“This week, forces discovered a tunnel shaft inside a child’s room next to a meat cleaver. Forces further identified six terrorists near a school in forces’ area of responsibility. The terrorists were eliminated using drone and tank fire,” the IDF said in a statement.
Images released by the IDF show forces operating in Rafah’s dense urban environment, as well as caches of weapons, explosives and other equipment they recovered during the operation.

News of the operation came the same day that Israeli military strikes cleared out Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists hiding out at a United Nations school for Palestinian refugees in central Gaza, killing more than 30 people, including 23 women and children, local authorities said.
Israel said The attack targeted a Hamas compound inside the school, where between 20 and 30 fighters were found, many of whom were killed.

The pre-dawn attack happened at 10:30 a.m., according to witnesses and hospital officials. United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East According to UNRWA, the school was attracting Palestinians who had fled Israeli attacks and bombings in northern Gaza.
“Elimination: Several Hamas and Islamic Jihad terrorists hiding out in a UNRWA (United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees) school,” the IDF post to X read.

“Israeli Air Force warplanes carried out a precise strike on a Hamas compound hidden inside a school in the Nuseira district. These terrorists “He was part of the Nukuba army and took part in the massacre on October 7,” he continued.

The IDF said it had taken several measures before Thursday’s strikes to reduce the risk of innocent civilians being harmed during the attack, “including aerial surveillance and gathering additional intelligence.”

The post was accompanied by an aerial photograph showing the location of rooms on the top two floors of the building, which the IDF said was a “terrorist location.”
