Vice President Kamala Harris said at a Democratic dinner in Michigan on Saturday night that she mourned the loss of “innocent lives” of Palestinians in Gaza when four hostages were freed in an Israeli rescue mission.
Fox 2 Detroit report:
“Before we begin, I want to share a few words about the morning that has been weighing heavy on all of our minds.” [Harris] “On October 7, Hamas brutally massacred 1,200 innocent people and took 250 hostages,” it said.
“Thankfully, four of the hostages have been reunited with their families this evening, and we mourn all innocent lives lost in Gaza, including those tragically killed today.”
The four hostages were being held by a Palestinian civilian family near a market in the central Gaza city of Nuseira, according to both Israeli and Palestinian sources. Palestinian sources claim that 210 people were killed during the raid, but this figure cannot be independently verified and does not distinguish between terrorists and civilians.
Israel claimed fewer than 100 people were killed, many of them terrorists.
Palestinian supporters tried on Saturday to blunt the euphoria of Israel’s victory by claiming that Israel had committed a “genocide.”
Harris spoke in Michigan, a hotbed of anti-Israel extremism, in an apparent attempt to quell those voices.
Her efforts were unsuccessful: pro-Palestinian protesters heckled Harris as she spoke, yelling “this is genocide.”
