Polling guru floats the idea of Biden dropping out: At some point ‘continuing to run is a bigger risk’

Nate Silver, election data expert and founder of FiveThirtyEight, suggested Monday that President Biden’s latest disapproval ratings could be enough reason for the Democratic front-runner to drop out of the 2024 presidential race.

“But Biden’s approval rating just hit an all-time low yesterday with 538 votes (37.4%). Withdrawing would be a big risk, but below that level staying in the race becomes an even bigger risk. Are we there yet? I don’t know, but it’s fair to ask,” Silver posted on Monday.

He further added that if Democrats 46th President of the United States He had previously announced his withdrawal from the upcoming election.

“In my opinion, it is clear that the Democratic Party would have been better off if Biden had decided a year ago not to seek a second term. That would have allowed something like a primary to take place and give voters a say among many popular Democrats across the country,” he wrote.

“If you’d told me 10 years ago that a majority of Americans were concerned about the president’s age, and yet we had a president running for reelection at age 81, even with inflation hitting 8% for the next two years, I wouldn’t have been surprised that his chances of reelection were slim. I would have even been surprised by how close it was!” he said. Said.

Responding to critics who said he had focused too much on why Biden should drop out and not enough on former President Trump, Silver said he believes Trump should also drop out of the race.

“‘Trump should drop out too!’ [a] You’re weirdly critical of people who say Biden has a big challenge. Yes, Trump should go! I agree! Biden will lose by 7 points. [against a different candidate]”But I agree that it would be better for the Republican Party and the country if a different candidate were selected,” Silver wrote.

Biden and some of his top advisers reportedly don’t believe the bad poll numbers.
