Biden voters tell CBS reporter they’re ready to support Trump after he makes unique tax proposal: ‘Would change their vote’

A CBS News reporter spoke to a group of Biden supporters in battleground states who may be persuaded to support Donald Trump in the 2024 election.

Speaking at a campaign rally in Nevada on Sunday, President Trump promised supporters that one of the first things he would do if re-elected would be to repeal the tip tax.

“If Donald Trump promises them that, that’s enough to make them switch their vote from Democrat to Republican.”

“Hotel workers and people who get tips are going to be very happy because when I’m in office, there’s no tax on tips,” Trump said. Said“We’re not going to do that. We’re going to do that as soon as we take office, first thing, because it’s been a contentious issue for years. And you do a great service and you take care of people, and I think that would be a really well-deserved reward.”

The proposal is popular in Nevada for “hospitality and leisure” reasons. The workers make up 23% of the state’s workforce.Approximately 361,000 people would each benefit significantly if the IRS stopped collecting taxes on tips.

The policy has also proven beneficial to President Trump.

On Monday, CBS News reporter Olivia Rinaldi said she had spoken to a group of service workers who confirmed they would change their vote because of Trump’s promises.

“I spoke to hotel and service employees in Las Vegas yesterday to discuss how it’s affecting them,” Rinaldi reported.

“And about a half-dozen people told me they would switch their vote,” she revealed. “If Donald Trump promises them something like that, that’s enough for them to switch their vote from Democrat to Republican.”

The repeal of the tip tax requires approval from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Current number of views Cash and non-cash tips are taxable income.

But change is not impossible.

If Trump wins the White House and Republicans regain control of the Senate and maintain control of the House, they could pass new tax reform that includes repealing the tip tax.

The policy would likely enjoy broad support, given that most states allow employers to pay tipped employees significantly lower wages than non-tipped employees.
