A disturbing new report by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General concludes that DHS is not effectively screening and vetting aliens and asylum seekers entering the United States.
A report obtained by Fox News’ Bill Melgin found that U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officials do not have access to all federal data to complete thorough screening and vetting of people seeking entry into the United States.
The report states that without the capacity to effectively test and screen foreign nationals, CBP cannot fully screen and screen all foreign travelers at airports and land ports of entry.
Additionally, the inspector general stated that without the dedicated technical capacity and resources to conduct mid-course screening, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) may not be able to promptly identify asylum seekers with adverse information who remain in the country for extended periods while awaiting a refugee status determination.

“Until these challenges are resolved, DHS will continue to be at risk of admitting dangerous individuals or allowing asylum seekers to continue to reside in the United States who may pose a significant threat to public safety and national security,” the report said.
Following the report, the Department of Homeland Security agreed with all five of the Office of Inspector General’s recommendations to address the problem.
