Democratic political strategist James Carville expressed concern about the Democratic Party losing minority voters, particularly Latino voters, ahead of the 2024 election cycle and criticized “preachy women” in the party.
Carville’s comments came during an appearance on Donny Deutsch’s podcast “On Brand,” in which he highlighted the Democratic Party’s “big male problem” in “communities of color.”
“There’s a huge men’s issue on all fronts, but I hate the term ‘communities of color,’ but I’m going to use it anyway, as if everyone who isn’t white is the same. It’s stupid,” Carville said.

Carville described the party’s “male problem” as being exacerbated by “preachy women” who he said were “taking it too far”.
“And I think, and I told The New York Times this, people got a little angry, but I think there are too many preachy women in the Democratic culture. There are too many of them,” he said.
“‘Don’t eat burgers, don’t watch football, wear a condom.’ Look, leave me alone, OK? I’ve got a godly life,” Carville says. “I’m a guy working in a tire repair shop outside of Atlanta, working 50 hours a week, making $16.50 an hour, and I want to watch football games, smoke pot and drink beer.”
James Carville slams New York Times for ‘biased coverage’ of Trump
Carville said the perception that they are “lazy” has frustrated minority voters.
“And then people call him lazy and reject the bullshit,” he added. “I guess that’s part of what it means to be cosmopolitan, which is, you know, we need to live the life we live, not the life you live. And that pisses people off.”

Deutsch told Carville that Trump appears to have an advantage in areas where Democrats are struggling.
Carville agreed, adding, “We’re going to lose Hispanic men. We’re really going to lose them.”
Young black voters in Philadelphia slam Biden and Trump, calling them “both liars,” “both dirty” and “neither candidate is good.”
“It’s a gender issue,” Deutsch said. “It’s… what they want very much, and this is a generalization, is for men to be strong and dominant in the home.”

Recent polls have shown that minority voters Unhappy with President Biden.
A poll released in May by The New York Times, Siena College and The Philadelphia Inquirer found that Trump was leading in five of the six key battleground states that he narrowly lost to Biden four years ago.
Of particular concern to Democrats is that the poll found Biden leading Trump among Black voters 63% to 23%, but that would be a sharp drop from the 87% of Black voters who supported Biden in 2020 and helped him win in Georgia and other battleground states.

If the results are certified on Election Day, and Trump wins more than 20% of the black vote, it would be the highest level of support for a Republican presidential candidate among black voters in generations.
