Rachel Morin’s Family ‘Deeply Touched’ After Trump Calls to Offer Condolences

The Angel family of Rachel Maurin say they are “deeply moved” to receive a condolence call from former President Donald Trump after Maurin was allegedly raped and murdered last year by an illegal immigrant with ties to the MS-13 gang across the US-Mexico border.

On Thursday, Maureen’s mother, Patty, and the family’s attorney, Randolph Rice, said President Trump had called them and offered his condolences for their deaths.

“I was deeply touched by President Trump’s kindness and concern,” Patty Morin said.

“He was sincere and genuinely wanted to know how our family was coping,” she continued. “He asked about Rachel and expressed his sincere sympathy for her untimely death. His words have given me comfort during this extremely difficult time.”

Similarly, Rice said in a press release that her family was “grateful for President Trump’s call.”

“Actions like this demonstrate his deep compassion for the American people,” Rice said. “His concern for Rachel’s family and his personal reach out to them is a comfort to them and means so much to all of us.”

Rice said Morin’s murder was another tragic reminder of the real damage illegal immigration does to the lives of Americans.

“The need to take immediate action at the border to stop the steady flow of illegal immigrants is common sense policy to protect Americans from future crimes,” Rice said.

“If we can prevent just one murder committed by an illegal immigrant, it’s worth it,” he continued. “We must regroup and implement measures at our southern border that prioritize the safety and well-being of all Americans, regardless of party affiliation.”

Meanwhile, President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has sought to absolve his administration’s border policies of responsibility in Morin’s killing.

“Criminals are held accountable for their criminal acts,” Mayorkas told CNN. “The criminals who committed this heinous act should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law, and to the fullest extent of the law. That’s my response.”
