MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace said on “Deadline” Thursday that former President Donald Trump is a “cult leader” who doesn’t believe his own lies.
Wallace said, “Trump has known for a long time, hasn’t he? Even Donald Trump privately acknowledges the truth, despite spending four years raging that the 2020 presidential election was somehow stolen from him. Even Donald Trump knows the truth. The truth he’s so embarrassed about is that President Joe Biden beat him in the 2020 presidential election, as he calls him, ‘this guy.'”
In an audio interview with author Ramin Setoodeh, while discussing Geraldo Rivera, Trump said, “After I lost the election, I won the election. But when they told me I lost, he called me three or four times. I didn’t answer the calls because I was busy fighting them.”
Wallace said, “The disgraced former president continues to spread lies that have undermined our elections, trust and belief in American democracy, that his own supporters swallowed those lies, some of them having their freedoms and rights taken away. Those lies incited them to launch a deadly coup against the United States government at the U.S. Capitol on January 6th. Those lies have led to dozens of Trump allies being indicted in several states. More than half of Republicans believe those lies. Trump couldn’t even keep up with those lies in recorded interviews. We now know the cult leader doesn’t believe those lies.”
