Most Arizona Voters Support Policy Deporting Illegals, Sending Troops to Secure the Border

A recent Rasmussen Reports poll found that a majority of Arizona voters would support deporting illegal immigrants and sending in the military to secure the southern US border.

Overall Survey Indicated Border security is one of the top two issues for the state’s voters, after the economy. Notably, border security emerged as a top priority among Republicans in the state and the second most important issue for independents. However, border security is not a top priority for Democrats, who chose abortion as their top issue, followed by the economy.

Given this reality, the survey asked respondents whether they supported or opposed sending troops to the southern border to “stop the flow of illegal immigrants.”

Overall, a majority (62%) strongly or somewhat support the measure, including 37% who say they “strongly” support it. Majorities of Republicans and independents (86% and 57%, respectively) also strongly or somewhat support the measure.

Additionally, the survey found that 56% overall strongly or somewhat support the policy of “deporting all illegal immigrants.” Of those, 35% “strongly” support such a policy. Broken down by party affiliation, 82% of Republicans, 43% of independents, and 37% of Democrats support at least some degree of deporting all illegal immigrants. Notably, independents are more divided, with 43% at least somewhat opposed to such measures.

A majority, 49 percent, also said they would oppose a bill that would give amnesty to illegal immigrants. Given a choice between a pro-amnesty candidate and a pro-deportation candidate, a majority of voters in the state, 44 percent, said they would vote for the pro-deportation candidate. Only 35 percent said they would support the amnesty candidate, and 21 percent said they didn’t know.

As expected, 56% of Democrats said they would support a pardon candidate, while 71% of Republicans said they would support a deportation candidate. Among independents, 38% said they would support a pardon candidate and 34% said they would support a deportation candidate. The remaining 13% remained unsure.

The survey was conducted June 11-13, 2024 among 750 Arizona voters and has a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Trump has continued to speak out against Biden’s immigration policies, or lack thereof, and at a historic rally in the Bronx he noted that Biden’s policies have particularly hurt black and Hispanic communities.

“African-American real income is down 5.6 percent. African-Americans are being slaughtered. Hispanic-Americans are being slaughtered. And the biggest impact, the biggest negative impact on the millions of people coming into this country is on black people and Hispanics. They’re losing their jobs, they’re losing their homes, they’re losing everything they can lose,” Trump said.
