Angel mom Patty Maurin, whose 37-year-old daughter Rachel Maurin was murdered in 2023, allegedly at the hands of a fleeing illegal immigrant, says President Joe Biden is indifferent to the plight of American victims of illegal immigration. On the contrary, she said former President Donald Trump called her to offer his condolences.
On August 5, 2023, Rachel Maurin went for a walk on the Mama & Papa Heritage Trail in Bel Air, Harford County, Maryland. When she did not return home, her boyfriend, Richard Tobin, reported her missing.
The next day her body was found by the side of the road.
On June 15, 2024, Tulsa Police arrested Victor Antonio Martinez Hernandez, 23, an illegal immigrant from El Salvador with ties to the MS-13 gang, for his involvement in the rape and murder of Morin in Los Angeles, California, as well as the assault of a 9-year-old girl and her mother.
Patty Morin in an interview with Fox News Digital Said She was disappointed with the response, or lack thereof, shown by the Biden administration in the wake of her daughter’s murder, and her suspected killer having crossed the border as a fugitive on the president’s watch.
“They seem to be acting as if immigration issues don’t exist and as if people aren’t being hurt and killed by their policies. The casualties are not only those who are killed but the loved ones they leave behind. This is devastating to communities,” Patty Morin said.
Border Patrol agents arrested Martinez-Hernandez three times in 2023 — twice in January in New Mexico and Texas, and once in February in New Mexico. Each time, he was deported back to Mexico.
Shortly after his last deportation to Mexico, Martinez-Hernandez crossed the border into California, where he allegedly assaulted a woman and her child, then traveled to Maryland, where he is accused of raping and murdering Morin.
Before crossing the border, Martinez Hernandez was accused of murdering a woman in his native El Salvador after leaving a bar with the victim, whose body was found days later.
Patty Morin said Biden has “shown zero interest in what the American people have to say on this issue,” adding, “He sits in his ivory tower and we just sit below. He’s not connected to ordinary people.”
Patty Morin also said Trump had called the family to offer his condolences.
“Trump was actually a very sincere person,” Patty Morin said. “You could hear it in his voice. He sounded genuinely concerned, as if he had experienced a loss himself.”
Martinez-Hernandez is being held without bail in the Harford County Detention Center. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has issued a detention order against him, requesting that he be held if released at any time.
