The Democratic National Committee plans to set up a mobile billboard at the presidential debate in Atlanta on Thursday criticizing former President Trump over election interference.
The mobile billboard marks the first time the DNC has directly attacked Trump in a Georgia lawsuit, the committee said.
One of the videos posted on the billboard calls the former president a “convicted felon,” while others criticize Trump’s stance on abortion, taxes, Medicare and Social Security.
The move came hours before Trump faced off against President Biden in the first presidential debate of the season. It also signals Democrats’ attack on Trump’s conviction in last month’s hush-money trial in New York. Earlier this month, the Biden campaign launched a $50 million ad campaign calling Trump a “convicted felon.”
“Tonight, voters will see a sharp contrast between President Biden, a true leader who wakes up every day fighting for the American people, overseeing historic job growth, fighting to ease the burden on families and protecting the rights of the American people, and President Donald Trump, a convicted felon who only fights for himself, puts the needs of working families and voters last and wants to ban abortion nationwide,” Democratic National Committee spokesman Avi Rahman said in a statement announcing the ad buy.
Trump and several of his associates are accused of trying to interfere with the 2020 presidential election in Georgia. Trump has pleaded not guilty to the charges. A trial in the case is unlikely to take place until after the election.
