Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., said Wednesday on MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight” that Democrats are fighting a “spiritual battle” with Republicans asking them to “see each other as the enemy.”
“Black voters are not going to show up to the polls in large numbers. Polls are going to go up and down between now and November. The reality is, most Americans aren’t going to pay much attention until after Labor Day. So I’m going to continue to insist that we’re really talking about the soul of this country. I believe we’re in a spiritual battle between people who see each other as enemies and want to attack each other, and forces within the country that want to turn on each other and build a country that’s strong and broad enough to embrace all of us in this vision,” Warnock said.
She added, “People are suffering. After three years of a pandemic and 20 years of war before that, I think the whole country is suffering from what I would call a low-grade fever. I think there are days when you wake up and feel nothing. The question is, who do you want to lead us in times like these? We want someone who has been baptized by his own pain and suffering, who has said goodbye to his children many times, who has lived a life of service. Not a perfect man, but someone who has thrived through suffering and who understands the suffering of ordinary people – that’s Joe Biden.”
