Several keeping tabs on Klay Thompson’s potential free agency

With Klay Thompson’s free agency decision looming, a bevy of NBA teams are trying to acquire him.

League Sources He told The Athletic The five-time All-Star would likely be of interest to the 76ers and Nuggets if he becomes a free agent.

With roughly $65 million in cap space, the 76ers have more than enough money to pay the 34-year-old Thompson what he’s asking Golden State for.

According to the outlet, the Nuggets “designated Thompson as a potential replacement” for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who declined his player option to become a free agent this week.

NBA Insider Mark Stein Report on Friday The Mavericks are reportedly “exploring” the possibility of acquiring Thompson after clearing cap space by trading Tim Hardaway Jr. to the Pistons.

The Magic have also been reported as a possible destination for Thompson in recent days.

The latest rumors about Thompson come amid what appears to be a deterioration in his relationship with the team.

Stein also wrote Friday that signs that Thompson, who spent all 13 NBA seasons with Golden State and won four championships alongside Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, were leaving the Bay Area “frankly, they have never been more pronounced.”

Earlier this month, Thompson unfollowed the Warriors on Instagram, removed any references to the team from his profile on the platform and deleted most of his Golden State-related posts dating back more than two years, suggesting something may be off in the relationship.

On June 17, The Athletic reported that Thompson would almost certainly hit the free agent market for the first time in 11 seasons.

“We’re hearing that Klay Thompson is open to all outside options in upcoming free agency,” NBA insider Shams Charania told FanDuel TV. “He’s going to try out free agency. We know the Warriors want him back. They offered him a contract extension before the start of the season. They’re going to see if a deal can be made. He’s going to hit the market and seek offers from others.”
