On Friday’s episode of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher and former MSNBC host Chris Matthews said former 2024 Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is mixing lies with the truth, but “Biden isn’t smart enough to keep up with him.”
Matthews said of Trump, “I’ve watched the guy my whole life, and he’s very quick on the trigger. I’ve watched him, and he starts out by saying we had a disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan. That’s true. He didn’t fire anybody, he didn’t fire any generals. All of that is true. And then he adds, by the way, illegal immigrants get Medicare and Social Security. No, they don’t. He just spins lies. He mixes lies with truth. … Biden’s not smart enough to keep up with him. He can’t keep up with him.”
Maher responded, “Exactly. Isn’t that the whole point? Don’t you think you need someone to keep up with him? I think Biden’s reason for running has always been that he’s the only person who can beat him. But now that’s flipped, he sees himself as the only person who can beat him.”
Elsewhere in the program, Maher said of Biden, “A lot of the things he’s done have helped this country.”
