Remaining victims ID’d in LI crash that killed NYPD cop

The remaining victims in a Long Island crash that killed an off-duty NYPD officer have been identified.

Suffolk County Police said in a statement that the three people killed in the crash of a Chevrolet Traverse at Hawaii Nail & Spa on Grand Boulevard in Deer Park at 4:30 p.m. Friday were named as Jengkai Chen, 37, of Bayside, Queens; Yang Xu, 41, of Flushing, Queens; and Meiji Zhang, 50, of Flushing, Queens.

New York Police Department Officer Emilia Lenhack, 30, of Deer Park, also died in the crash.

Lenhack had been to the nail salon ahead of another officer’s Friday night wedding.

Authorities said Nicole Mehare, 54, of Dix Hills, Ana Garcia, 53, of Bayshore, Wen Jun Chen, 35, of Bayside, Queens, and Michael Mehare, 58, of Deer Park, all suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were being treated at area hospitals.

Police said Carol Garcia, 23, of Bayshore, Toni Sassente, 32, of West Islip, Crystal Rodriguez, 37, of Bayshore, Nicole Sassente, 55, of Cape Coral, Florida, and a 12-year-old girl, whose identity has not been released, were all treated at area hospitals for their injuries.

The driver of the car, Steven Schwalli, was charged with DUI.

He was hospitalized with unknown injuries and will be arraigned at a later date, police said.
