Texas Man Faked Being CPS Worker to Gain Access to Children

An East Texas man accused of impersonating a Child Protective Services (CPS) worker to gain access to children has been arrested, thanks to several parents who cooperated with police in the case.

Authorities with the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office received a report in June about a suspect posing as a Child Protective Services worker and telling the child’s parents that he needed to talk to their child, Fox 4 reported. report Monday.

Authorities said the suspect had “access to the child,” but the family provided authorities with a detailed description of the suspect and his vehicle, which authorities said matched a similar incident that occurred in Sulphur Springs in November.

Investigators identified the suspect as Gerald Don Miller, 56. He was taken into custody June 25 at his home in Franklin County.

“During the execution of the search warrant, detectives recovered items in Miller’s vehicle that corroborated the statements made by the Lamar County victim. Evidence was also found in Miller’s vehicle indicating his involvement in crimes in Sulphur Springs,” authorities said. Said,according to Belleville News Democrat.

Individuals who may have come into contact with the suspect, who claimed to be a child protective services worker, are asked to contact police.

The suspect is described as 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs 240 pounds, has brown and white hair and a white mustache, Fox News reported. report Tuesday.

Miller, who is charged with three counts of impersonating a public servant and one count of sexual assault, is being held on $300,000 bail.
