Gun-toting homeowner confronts 2 males accused of breaking into cars, and 1 suspect advances toward homeowner. Dumb move.

Over the weekend in Columbus, Georgia, a gun-wielding homeowner was confronted by two men arrested for vehicle burglary. When one of the suspects approached the homeowner, the homeowner opened fire.

police Said Officers were dispatched at 12:01 a.m. Saturday to a residence in the Benning Hills area in reference to two men vandalizing a vehicle.

Police said they found another handgun and more than 40 grams of marijuana in the suspect’s vehicle.

Authorities said the homeowner confronted the suspects, and one of the suspects advanced on the homeowner, who then shot and killed him.

Police said the two suspects fled the scene in a vehicle and headed to a nearby gas station.

Officers were dispatched to the Circle K at 12:03 a.m. Police said they began an investigation into a man, later identified as 18-year-old Deonte Smith, who entered the store at Victory Drive and North Lumpkin Road suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers responded to the scene and Smith was taken to hospital where he is said to be in stable condition.

Police say the second suspect, a 17-year-old male, was detained in possession of a stolen firearm.

Police said they found another handgun and more than 40 grams of marijuana in the suspect’s vehicle.

According to police, the 17-year-old was charged with breaking and entering of a motor vehicle, receiving stolen property (firearm), possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, possession of marijuana with intent to sell, possession of drug related paraphernalia, loitering and theft of a credit card.

Police say they have obtained an arrest warrant for Smith, and he will be transported to the Muscogee County Jail after he is released from the hospital. Said Smith also faces charges, but he did not say on what charges he will be charged.
