Longtime friends of the Biden family were “alarmed” and “shocked” by revelations that President Joe Biden will be cognitively impaired by 2023, according to a bombshell report released on Thursday.
New York MagazineOlivia Nuzzi of the White House spoke to Democratic officials, activists and donors who in January began to question whether Biden could run for another four years, but were afraid to discuss it, Nuzzi said. I have written:
When they discussed what they knew, what they saw, what they heard, they spoke literally in whispers. They were scared, they were terrified. But they also carried burdens. They needed to talk about it (though they didn’t put it on the record). They needed to know they weren’t alone, that they weren’t crazy. Things were bad, and they knew it was bad, and they knew others must know it was bad too. And yet, on the surface, they needed to pretend that things were fine. The president would be fine. The election would be fine. They would be fine. To admit otherwise would have meant jeopardizing the future of the country, and no one wanted to take that responsibility, either personally or societally.
She wrote that “longtime friends of the Biden family” who spoke to her anonymously were “shocked” that Biden didn’t remember their names.
At a 2023 White House event, one guest realized “with horror” that Biden wouldn’t stay for the reception because he “wouldn’t be able to make it through the reception.”
WATCH — Dr. Gupta on CNN: Biden needs to undergo ‘in-depth cognitive testing’:
“Guest was unsure whether he could vote for Biden because he was now open to an idea he had previously dismissed as right-wing propaganda — that the president might not be the acting president after all,” Nuzzi wrote.
Nuzzi said Biden was becoming “increasingly difficult to reach” even for routine government business.
“Others have told me it is becoming increasingly difficult to contact the President, even regarding official business, where a President of the United States would be in regular contact with senior officials around the world,” she wrote.
“Instead, Biden was trapped in layers of bureaucracy and was more likely to be spoken for than spoken or spoken to,” she wrote.
WATCH — Democratic Rep. Huffman: Debate isn’t just for one night, it could solidify ‘really unfortunate narrative’ about Biden’s health:
After it was revealed earlier this year that Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin had been hospitalized for nearly a week after undergoing surgery for prostate cancer, the White House acknowledged that Biden had no knowledge of the cancer diagnosis or why his defense secretary had been missing for so long.
It was also a time of rising tensions in the Middle East, with Iranian-backed militias targeting U.S. troops in Iraq and Syria.
Biden’s struggle to finish his thoughts and sentences during a June debate has sparked speculation in Washington that he might be removed from the Democratic presidential nomination.
