Axelrod post-interview: Biden 'dangerously out of touch' with voter concerns

Democratic strategist David Axelrod warned President Biden after his highly anticipated interview with ABC News that he is “dangerously out of touch” with voters on issues of age and health.

“The President is rightly proud of his record, but he is dangerously out of touch with public concerns about his future abilities and where he stands on the campaign trail,” Axelrod said in a post on social platform X. “A few years ago at this time, the President was 10 points ahead of Trump. Now he’s 6 points behind.”

Axelrod’s comments came shortly after Biden’s full interview with ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos aired Friday night, his first since his harsh criticism of former President Trump in last week’s debate.

Throughout the interview, Biden described his debate performance as a “terrible night.”

“I was answering a question and the microphone was off and I realized he was still yelling, and it just distracted me and made for a bad night,” Biden said of Trump.

“I realized I was not in control,” he added.

Biden also insisted he is not trailing in the presidential election, despite polls suggesting otherwise.

Ahead of the ABC News interview airing on Friday, Rep. Mike Quigley (D-IL) became the fourth House Democrat to call on Biden to withdraw from the presidential race, and The Washington Post reported that Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) is forming a group of Democratic senators to call on Biden to withdraw from the race.
