Pollster Nate Silver joins growing choir of Democratic voices urging Biden to bow out of the presidential race

Pollster Nate Silver has joined the chorus of Democrats calling for President Joe Biden to step down, after Biden performed less than well in an ABC News interview on Friday night. Fox News Digital.

The president’s 22-minute interview with George Stephanopoulos was meant to ease fears about Biden’s reelection, but Silver argued the interview did more harm than good.

“I balked at the column today and deleted a line that said we should have a plan in place to hand over the presidency to Ms Harris within the next 30 to 60 days, and now we are right.”

The pollster said:[t]This is a rather incoherent answer, and contains some illogical parts. [complaining] The president falsely claimed his approval rating was down 10 points in a New York Times poll before the debate (it was actually three or four points, depending on which version you look at). The president’s apparent rant was about how he felt about the debate with former President Donald Trump.

The Blaze News reported that the New York Times editorial board issued a statement last month suggesting that Biden should drop out of the presidential race. The paper’s call came after Biden’s lackluster performance in a debate with Trump in late June.

The president’s calls for him to drop out of the race were echoed by other prominent Democrats, including comedian Bill Maher, who said Biden didn’t even show up to his own debate, adding: “Trump lied on lie. It would never have been tolerated if Joe Biden had been there. Joe is famously fond of trains, but apparently not of ideas.”

Silver reportedly wrote a morning column about Biden’s campaign but “weakened” and removed a line urging the president to begin the transition of power to Vice President Kamala Harris. But after the ABC interview, Silver reiterated his belief that it was time for Democrats to find another candidate to challenge Trump.

“I had the nerve to delete a line from my op-ed today that said Harris should have a plan in place to transition the presidency within the next 30 to 60 days, but now she’s right,” Silver wrote. “Something is clearly wrong.”

“To put it most charitably, he appears to be out of command, but that’s very hard to accept when you’re commander in chief.” Despite urging from those close to Biden to press ahead with the campaign, Silver reportedly believes it’s only a matter of time before the Democratic Party as a whole puts “incredible pressure” on the president to step down.

Despite a disappointing interview with ABC, Biden maintained that the reason for his poor performance was both poor health and fatigue.
