A carjacking suspect was arrested in Florida on Friday after hitting a police officer with a stolen car and leading police on a high-speed chase that ended in a swamp, according to newly released footage.
Body Camera Video Footage from the Port Orange Police Department shows the moment officers confronted 20-year-old Afrija Aman Madi Balk as he was parking a car that had been reported stolen outside an apartment building in Daytona Beach.
The video shows one of the officers, who appears to have a Taser or gun pointed at the car, demanding that the suspect put his hands up and get out of the vehicle, but Baluch refuses to comply.
When the officer opened the passenger side door to remove the suspect, Baruch backed the car up, causing the car door to slam the officer to the ground.
According to the video, the officer stands up and yells, “Hey! Hands up! Hey!” and points his weapon at Bulk, who then quickly runs away.
Port Orange officers jumped into their patrol cars and pursued Balk, with one car trying to intercept him on a dead-end road.
The video shows Baluch’s car crashing into and scraping the front of a patrol car during the getaway, and the officer warning other officers over the radio that the suspect could do the same thing to their car.
The video shows the suspect eventually losing control of his vehicle and coming to a stop, with officers quickly surrounding it and yelling for him to surrender.
Instead, Bulk decided to jump out of the car and flee on foot, losing his shoes as he ran into the woods.
However, the carjacking suspect soon found himself in front of a swamp and before he could run to avoid the swamp, officers intercepted him and pushed him into the water.
Two officers worked together to handcuff Baluch and pull him from the shallow swamp, but he begged to be released.
He could also be heard complaining about the twigs he was being held down with as officers detained him.
Balke was booked into the Volusia County Jail and charged with aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a police officer, resisting an officer with violence, fleeing or attempting to elude police, grand theft of a motor vehicle, petty theft, criminal damage to property and unlawful possession of another person’s identification.
