(The Center Square) – Republican Rep. Brian Steil, who is running against Democratic candidate Peter Barca in Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, recently spoke about the state of inflation and immigration, two of the top three issues that polls show Wisconsin voters care about.
At his Friday news conference, Steele focused primarily on inflation, a central issue of his campaign.
“It’s hard to express how concerned Americans are about the state of the country and the need to get back on track,” Steil said. “The economic policies Biden has put in place have made everything about 20% more expensive than when he took office. Grocery prices have gone up, the median mortgage has doubled, car prices have increased and auto insurance is more expensive, and energy prices, from gas to utilities, have increased dramatically under President Biden.”
Steele also harshly criticized Biden’s handling of the border situation, particularly the surge of migrants into Midwestern states such as Wisconsin.
“His policies on the U.S.-Mexico border are disastrous,” Steele said. “They’re impacting not only the entire country, but the state of Wisconsin in particular. The city of Whitewater, population 15,000, has seen an influx of more than 1,000 migrants over the past two years, putting a severe strain on emergency responders and school systems in particular.”
Biden: letter In a message to Democratic supporters on social media on Monday, Trump said he was campaigning on a “historic track record of success” on job creation, unemployment, health care and drug prices, infrastructure and manufacturing growth, and student loan forgiveness.
Biden’s letter did not mention his administration’s record on inflation or border policy.
