DNC to launch billboards, bus signs in Milwaukee for RNC hitting Trump over Roe, democracy

The Democratic National Committee (DNC) will install eight billboards in Milwaukee during next week’s Republican National Convention to make the case that reproductive rights and democracy are ballot issues in November.

The Milwaukee billboards, seen exclusively by The Hill, read, “Democracy Depends on the Vote, Folks” and “Reinstate Roe? Vote Joe!!”

Another sign read, “Joe Biden will reinstate Roe, fight for freedom and protect democracy.”

The signs, written in English and Spanish, are intended to “remind Milwaukee that Biden is the only candidate who will defend our democracy and freedom,” according to the DNC.

The DNC also had 57 buses around Milwaukee equipped with signs displaying seven slogans supporting Biden, including “Reinstate Roe? Vote for Joe!!” along with similar messages about democracy and Roe, the committee said.

Biden has made restoring the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade a key pillar of his campaign after the Supreme Court overturned federal abortion protections, and frequently warned during his campaign that former President Trump was a threat to democracy, citing attempts by the president to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

The billboards’ focus on democracy came after the Supreme Court ruled that core presidential powers protect the president from criminal prosecution, handing him a victory and sending his federal lawsuit seeking to overturn the results of the 2020 election back to lower courts.

Biden called the ruling a “dangerous precedent” and warned that it meant “the American people must decide whether to entrust the office of the presidency” to Trump, knowing that he “may become even more emboldened.”

The DNC recently installed 10 billboards in the Milwaukee area ahead of the convention, highlighting comments made by Trump in which he called Milwaukee a “bad city.”
