PragerU Slams NewsGuard’s ‘Insidious’ Practices Aimed at Driving Conservative Media ‘Out of Business’

PragerU has slammed NewsGuard, a for-profit company that is working with corporations and advertisers to wage a massive blacklisting campaign to strangle conservative media. PragerU is exposing the company’s cunning and “underhanded” tactics aimed at driving conservative media “out of business.” The nonprofit, founded by Dennis Prager, has launched an X/Twitter takeover with the hashtag #EndBigTechCensorship to expose NewsGuard’s tactics.

Marissa Streit, CEO of Prager U, said: New Videos NewsGuard’s co-founder and CEO said he is a “staunch supporter of the Democratic Party” and “has a record of dissing Hunter Biden’s laptop,” adding that NewsGuard’s staff is “predominantly made up of left-leaning activists and former journalists.” While the company’s leadership and staff both claim to be targeting “misinformation,” in reality they are seeking to shut down any conservative media that stands up to the left’s agenda. Along with launching a campaign on X, Prager U. A petition was started “Exposing NewsGuard and its allies’ suppression of free speech.”

Streit noted that NewsGuard has been active against organizations such as PragerU, Breitbart News, The Daily Caller and The Federalist, as well as “sources of news and opinion that are not left-leaning.”

PragerU’s CEO explained how NewsGuard deploys the same plan of attack on every media target: It starts by sending a list of “blaming questions” about hot topics. If the target complies and answers the questions in good faith, NewsGuard quickly switches to other questions. If the media chooses not to answer, NewsGuard takes that as an admission that the media cannot be trusted.

“If it fails the test – and it will fail – NewsGuard will tell its clients – PR firms, advertising agencies and large corporations – that they are toxic and they should run the other way,” Streit said, noting that for many companies that rely heavily on advertising, this “could get very expensive, very quickly.”

“If we don’t comply, we may be put out of business, but of course that’s the plan,” Streit added, noting that Federalist editor Mark Hemingway, who faced this kind of damaging cross-examination, called NewsGuard a “blackmail organization.”

“Having been through this myself, I can back up that assessment,” Streit said.

The PragerU CEO also pointed out that Big Tech has found loopholes to censor online speech with the help of NewsGuard.

NewsGuard works in a different, more insidious way: Big tech companies don’t like to be criticized by ordinary people and politicians who complain that they are censoring non-left viewpoints.

Now they have a hiding place, thanks to NewsGuard, a company funded by big tech companies: They say, “We don’t make any judgments. We hire third-party fact-checkers to tell us that this story or that website can’t be trusted.”

“In essence, NewsGuard allows us to censor speech without leaving fingerprints,” Streit said.

Moreover, governments are also finding ways to censor speech, with the Department of Defense paying NewsGuard more than $700,000 to monitor the internet for “misinformation” — Orwellian terminology for “information the Department of Defense doesn’t like,” Streit added.

The American Federation of Teachers (AFT), one of the largest teachers unions, has also signed a contract with NewsGuard to screen content brought into classrooms.

“When NewsGuard red flags a source, it’s enough to know that the left doesn’t want you to read, watch or listen to it,” Streit said.

PragerU will be conducting an X-Takeover on Tuesday with the hashtag #EndBigTechCensorship, which will be focused on exposing NewsGuard’s biased practices.

As Breitbart News reported in December, reporter Li Fang noted that NewsGuard requires news sites to comply with government reporting. NewsGuard also boasts of ties to intelligence agencies and other agencies of the federal government.
