Democrats Saying ‘Get on Board or Shut the F**k Up’ Doesn’t Fix Voters’ Concerns About Biden

On Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” on Monday, host Jon Stewart said ignoring concerns about President Joe Biden’s age “undermines trust and faith in our government system.” “You either support it or you shut down the government.” [bleep] “The debates … are not a particularly compelling pro-Democracy bumper sticker,” he said, adding that the Biden campaign had been grossly dishonest in its reporting on the debates.

“I just wanted to explain a little bit about where the concerns about Biden’s performance are coming from and why I see those concerns as a more fundamental issue. You know, even before the debate, there were some uneasy moments of disconnect with the president,” Stewart began.

After giving several examples, Stewart said, “Obviously, to be fair, the State of the Union was a little less concerning. He was kind of on point. But then the debate started…To me, the debate was a shocking display of cognitive difficulties. Unfortunately, as anyone who has worked with elderly parents can tell you, it was painful to watch.”

He said former 2024 Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump was ” [started]…The difference is this…Trump delivered the expected speech in the debate. We believe he [bleep] “It’s crazy, but Biden’s performance and his lack of expression at times was shocking. I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.”

“But then things went awry. Instead of respecting the American people and having an honest, at least partial, discussion about what we all saw, we were told straight away, ‘This is not the droid you’re looking for,'” he added.

Stewart then defended Biden’s poor performance, saying:[F]Or a campaign based on honesty and decency, the reports on the debates seem patently fake. And the redemption tour hasn’t gone very well either.”

Stewart added, “There was no real primary. Biden faced off against Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN). … And let me say this: authoritarianism and Donald Trump are not the only threats facing democracy. Our arthritic status quo, unable or unwilling to respond in any way to voter concerns in the face of urgent new information about a candidate, erodes trust and confidence in our system of government. It’s either you support it or we shut it down.” [bleep] “Up… is not a particularly compelling pro-democracy bumper sticker, so what are you going to do about it?”

Stewart argued there is plenty of time to vote on whether Biden should be the nominee.
