Independent candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. came in third with 9 percent support, followed by Jill Stein of the Green Party with 3 percent and Chase Oliver of the Libertarian Party with 1 percent. Five percent of respondents were undecided.
Trump leads Biden among independents, 36% to 31%, but 24% of this group are split on their support for a third-party candidate.
Furthermore, Trump has a clear advantage over Biden in terms of support within his party. 93% of Republican supporters support Trump. Conversely, 86% of Democratic supporters support Biden, making the difference in support rates between the two candidates within their bases clear. 2% of Democratic supporters said they would vote for Trump, while 1% of Republican supporters said they would vote for Biden.
Trump maintains a large advantage over the president in a two-way matchup. In this scenario, the 45th president would win 50% of respondents, five points ahead of Biden’s 45%. Trump’s lead among independents shrinks slightly, to a net four points. Trump maintains a 97-point advantage among Republican voters, up from 92% in the five-way matchup. Meanwhile, Biden’s lead among Democrats has grown to a net 91 points, up from 84% with the more popular candidate.
The poll also gauges the heat in the Badger State Senate race, in which Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) is facing off against Republican businessman Eric Hovde. Baldwin has 50% support to Hovde’s 45%, and Baldwin holds a 13-point lead among independents.
The survey was commissioned by AARP and conducted by Fabrizio Ward and Impact Research from June 28 to July 2, 2024. The survey included a sample of 600 voters and has a margin of error of plus or minus 4 percentage points.
