Despite President Joe Biden’s refusal to step down, more Democrats on Thursday called on him to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race.
Rep. Marie Grusenkamp Perez, D-Wash., waded into new territory Thursday by calling not just for Biden to resign, but for him to step down.
“Over the past two weeks, I have heard my constituents express concerns about the president’s age and health. Like most in Southwest Washington, the region I represent, I have doubts about the president’s health, his ability to perform his job, and his judgment about whether it is he, and not his unelected advisors, who should be making important decisions about our country,” Rep. Groossenkamp Perez said in a statement.
“The American people should feel that the president is fully capable of doing his job. The crisis of confidence in the president’s leadership needs to end. He should do what he knows is right for the country and put the national interest first,” she added.

Later that day, Rep. Jim Himes (D-Conn.) called on the president to resign after a press conference about NATO.
“Joe Biden’s record of public service is unmatched,” Himes posted on X. “His accomplishments are immeasurable. His legacy as a great president is solid.”
“Donald Trump must not jeopardize his legacy, his record and American democracy to confront the horrors he promised,” Himes added.

Similarly, Rep. Scott Peters (D-Calif.) Politico “Today, I am asking President Biden to withdraw from the campaign for president. The stakes are high and we are headed for a loss,” he said after Biden’s press conference.
